We have to create a political situation like that in 1969 where 5,000 people went to jail rather than serve in Vietnam...I was contemplating releasing documents, which could have carried a sentence of 115 years. Was that too much to take on? I'd been to Vietnam. In combat it's very common for people to risk their lives and their bodies for a lie. Bravery in a bad cause is not uncommon, and often we see it on both sides. Often both sides are bad causes.
What we need at home of course is people who will change their lives, risk their careers and their jobs and their relationships with their families and their bosses and their church groups by taking a stronger stand than most people were ready to take; by saying truths that most people were not ready to hear. Join the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council for it's first-ever "Ridge Trail Cruz" on Saturday, October 7, 2006.
Hikers may choose to go on a 13-mile hike, or up to 26 miles. A bus will shuttle hikers south to a Santa Clara County Park or MROSD’s Saratoga Gap so they can hike north on the return. There are five mountain bike options in MROSD preserves for participants. Outings suitable for children are also available, and equestrians are welcome. Rest stops, water, snacks, a detailed map, and outing leaders are provided, plus bus transportation for hikers. The fee is $30.
Attendance is limited to 80 hikers and 50 cyclists, plus family groups.
Start time depends on the event. By joining the optional CruzAthon, participants can raise funds through pledges and receive special gifts. Event proceeds will benefit the Bay Area Ridge Trail Council’s efforts to complete the proposed 500-mile trail.

Joel Meyerowitz (b. 1938) is an award-winning photographer whose work has been shown in museums and galleries around the world, including The Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. As an early advocate of color photography, he was instrumental in changing the attitude toward the use of color from one of resistance to nearly universal acceptance. Musical acts performing on the three stages include the The String Cheese Incident (playing two full sets each night), British nu-school breaks producer Tipper, revolutionary underground artist Bassnectar, modern day traveling minstrel DJ Mark Farina, the down-tempo trip-hop dance music of Lotus, live electronic hipsters Pnuma Trio and plenty of others still to be announced.
Performance troupe and dance collective participants include The Indigo Belly Dance, The Mystic FamilyCircus, Circus Contraption, Black and Blue Burlesque Anon Salon’s Circularious, and others. In addition to the stage performances, expect art encampments, novelty zones, installations, midnight spectacles, supergames, and everything.

Two articles found in the Venezuelan Constitution concerning the use of torture. Amazing, huh?
Dear Folks,
After yesterday’s vote by our congress, I just started reading the Venezuelan Constitution and please read the two articles contained within it concerning torture. I am thoroughly disgusted today.
(1) No person shall be subjected to penalties, tortures, cruelty, inhuman or degrading treatment. Every victim of torture or cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment effected or tolerated by agents of the State has the right to rehabilitation.
(4) Any public official who, by reason of his official position, inflicts mistreatment or physical or mental suffering on any person or instigates or tolerates such treatment, shall be punished* in accordance with law.
This is what America should be about. Every single politician that voted for the use of torture goes against the very spirit in which we came to be called the land of the free and the home of the brave. Regards, Mary!
